AHL update deze week met het spotlight op de Rockford Icehogs

Het is weer dinsdag en dan komt onze redacteur Cor Machielsen weer met de AHL update. Deze keer laat Cor zijn licht schijnen op de mannen van de Rockford Icehogs.

Wie zijn de Rockford Icehogs precies?
De Rockford Icehogs zijn het filiaal van de Chicago Blackhawks. Ze begonnen in 1995 als de Baltimore Bandits en verhuisden in 1997 naar Cincinnati om de Cincinnati Mighty Ducks te worden. In 2005-2006 stopten ze met het team omdat ze geen filiaal meer waren van een NHL team. In 2007 verhuisden ze, dit keer naar Rockford, om dus de Rockford Icehogs te worden.

De Icehogs staan op dit moment gedeeld tweede in de Central division. Ze zijn zeker een kanshebber om de play-offs te gaan halen, maar zoals al zo vaak gemeld zijn we net over de helft van het seizoen. Er zijn vier spelers die meer dan twintig punten hebben gescoord tot nu toe. Matthew Highmore, left winger met achttien goals en tien assists, Tomas Jurco, left winger met dertien goals en twaalf assists, Anthony Louis, center met zes goals en achttien assists en tot slot Vinnie Hinostroza, center met negen goals en dertien assists. Van de vier genoemde spelers is Hinostroza de enige met NHL-ervaring; hij speelde 66 wedstrijden voor de Blackhawks waarin hij negen goals scoorde en veertien assists gaf. De goalie van Rockford, Jeff Glass, staat inmiddels in de NHL bij de Blackhawks te keepen. In achttien wedstrijden in de AHL had hij een GAA van 2.60. Hij wordt inmiddels opgevolgd door Collin Delia, met een GAA 3.10 en een save percentage van 0.880, en Matt Tomkins, met een GAA 3.91 en ook een save percentage van 0.880.

Bovengenoemde goalies werden deze week echter allemaal afgetroefd door Zane McIntyre; de American Hockey League heeft de goalie van de Providence Bruinsg verkozen tot CCM/AHL Player of the Week. In twee wedstrijden kreeg hij 55 schoten en deze wist hij allemaal te stoppen. In 2016 heeft Zane 6 wedstrijden gespeeld voor de Boston Bruins in de NHL. Hij verloor ze alle vier met een GAA 3.96 en een save percentage van 0.858.
